Eclipse PDT – I’ve had to give up on it! Vs.php – come on down!

I’m peeved.  The last 2 days have been incredibly frustrating for me with regard to using the Eclipse PDT PHP environment.  I mentioned here that I’d been having problems with the workspace, and thought that I’d managed to get things sorted out.  I kicked off a new project and I thought that all was well….

Until, that is, I tried to re-open the project after working on soemthing else.  And despite following the Import process to the letter (and a few variations over the course of an hour or so) I could not get my project back in to the IDE.  I then decided to simply rebuild the project, and couldn’t even do that.

By this time I’d spent some 3 hours trying to do something that is pretty fundamental for a developer – creating and opening projects.  As I was ‘on the clock’, this was now costing me money – nearly £100 in chargeable time – so I decided to call it a day.

I’ve tried three other IDEs and the one that I’m currently using is one I tried before some time ago – Jcx Sofwtare’s VS.PHP IDE, based on the Visual Studio 2005 IDE.  The program is a stand alone IDE, and isn’t free but is certainly going to cost me less than another 3 hour stint trying to work out what gives with Eclipse.

I’m using a 30 day trial version – I’ll keep you posted, but so far I’ve been creating, opening a closing projects to my heart’s content.
